For factories and production
Payroll for factories and production lines
PayrollMaster runs payroll for factories where the floor is shifts, not salaries. Clocking is captured by biometric, QR or geofence; overtime is rated by weekday, rest-day and holiday type; minimum-wage floors apply by job category; and production casuals run on the same payroll as permanent operators.
The problem
Why casual pay is where payroll breaks
For manufacturers running shift crews alongside production casuals.
The floor runs on shifts, not months
Production is shifts and overtime by type, not a flat monthly figure. Payroll software built for salaried office staff makes you fight it every single month.
Casual and permanent share a line
The same line has permanent operators and production casuals working next to each other. They belong on one payroll run, not in two systems that have to be reconciled afterwards.
Clocking has to be believable
An hours dispute on a production line is not an email — it is a stoppage. The record has to be one nobody bothers arguing with.
One run for the whole floor, on hours nobody disputes.
How it works
How does casual payroll work?
Four steps, from the gate to a compliant payslip.
- 1
Capture the attendance
Hours come in by manual entry, QR code, biometric or geofence — whatever suits the gate, the field or the site. Hours are computed automatically rather than transcribed from a notebook.
- 2
Hold the wage floor
Minimum-wage floors apply by region and job category, not as one national number. Anything below the applicable floor is flagged before you pay it, not after an inspection.
- 3
Rate the hours
Overtime is computed by type — weekday, rest-day and public-holiday hours each pay at their own rate, across the whole crew, without anyone doing it by hand.
- 4
Tax it correctly
Sub-monthly earnings get sub-monthly PAYE, with prorated relief and below-threshold exemption. Fixed-fee task workers get withholding tax — resident or non-resident — with the certificate issued automatically.

Questions
Factories & production: common questions
Can production casuals and permanent operators run on one payroll?
Yes. Casual and permanent staff run on the same payroll and the same statutory return. Casual hours are captured and rated; permanent salaries are treated monthly. Both come out of one run.
How is shift overtime calculated?
Overtime is computed by type — weekday, rest-day and public-holiday hours each carry their own rate and are applied automatically across the crew, rather than being calculated by hand per shift.
How is clocking captured on a factory floor?
By biometric, QR code or geofence at the point of entry, with manual entry available as a fallback. Hours are computed from that capture, which is what makes the payslip defensible in a dispute.
Does it flag anyone paid below the wage floor?
Yes. Minimum-wage floors apply by region and job category, and any worker below the applicable floor is flagged before the run is paid — before it becomes an inspection finding.
Run one crew free
Start free, add a single crew, and run one real month — the attendance, the overtime, the wage floor and the PAYE that comes out of it. Compare it against your muster roll before you switch anything.
